Cooke, Arthur

Orangeburg, NY - Tappan Location

Arthur M. Cooke (Art) passed away on August 20, 2020 at the age of 89.  He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia A. Cooke, his five daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen and Kevin Morrison of Orangeburg, NY, Mary Jane and Michael Kovall of Tappan, NY, Anne Cooke and Zsolt Golenya of Montebello, NY, Jeannine and Anthony Hernandez of Chester, NJ and Kathleen and Martin LaRocca of Orangeburg, NY.  Art was also survived by his 20 adoring grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his daughter Laura Jean Cooke,  his sister Mary Jane Cooke and his parents Archie and Gladys Cooke.

Art was born April 21, 1931in North Bergen, NJ and lived in Orangeburg, NY most of his adult life.  He was a barber who had his own business in Ho-Ho-Kus. NJ for over 50 years.  He was very active in his church, St. Catherine’s in Blauvelt, NY and his senior group in Piermont, NY.  Art served proudly in the Marine Corps and was a Korean War Combat Veteran.  Notably in June of this year he was bestowed the honor of being invited to meet the President of the United States along with 9 other combat veterans during the 70th Anniversary of the Korean War at the war memorial in Washington, DC. 

Art lived a very full life and loved to travel and cruise with his wife Patricia all over the world.  He was an avid runner and has completed 26 consecutive Marine Corp Marathons as well as a total of 46 marathons throughout the United States and in other countries.  During his life he was also a SCUBA Instructor, was a member of the National Ski Patrol and a Skydiving Jump Instructor who completed 843 total jumps.  Art also volunteered and raised money for many organizations such as the Red Cross and American Cancer Society.  He was also a past member of the VFW in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and a member of the Rockland County Korean War Veterans, Eagle Chapter.

Art left a positive impact on everyone he met and will be very much missed by his family, friends and community.

A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, 10am, at St. Catharine’s Church, 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY.
