O'Donnell, Arthur

Orangeburg, NY - Tappan Location

Arthur O'Donnell passed away at home on Saturday October 2, 2021 surrounded by his loving family after a short but valiant battle with cancer.

Arthur was born in the Bronx on January 29, 1934, where he remained until graduation from high school in 1950, when he joined the Marines at age 17 and served three years, part of which were in Korea.  Arthur lost his beloved brother, Joseph in the Korean War, his only sibling.

Arthur later met and married Patricia Hicks in 1968 and they settled in Clifton New Jersey, where they had three children, Kimberly, Cindy and Kevin. In 1981, the family relocated to Rockland County, New York (Pearl River) where Arthur began employment with the former Lederle Laboratories, until his retirement in 1999.  In 2002, Arthur and Patricia moved to Cortwood Village retirement community in Orangeburg, New York. Arthur became of member of St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt during this time.

Arthur leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife Patricia and children, Kimberly of Suffern, Cindy of Valley Cottage and Kevin of Bronxville and daughter-in-law Missy and grandson Matthew of Brooklyn.

The family would like to acknowledge special people who helped us through this journey: The Good Samaritan Hospital Visiting Nurses services (Kathleen), the Veterans Administration Nurses (Sharon and Liz) and Medical Assistant, Tamara. All of the many Doctors and Nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital as well as Hospice staff, especially Meg and Vania. All of these special people really did everything for our family in the last month of Arthur's life.

We would also like to express our gratitude and love for our Cortwood friends. This close circle of friends/neighbors supported us so much in so many ways and we couldn't have done it without them. It took a village and you were there.

Thank you Father Paul, for being here in Arthur's last moments. Your visit was very important to him and helped ease the transition.

Lastly a most caring and dedicated person, who deserves special thanks, Roman, Arthur's Barber who came to the house to give Arthur an uplift and make him feel and look good. Arthur looked forward to his many visits.

As per Arthur's wishes, funeral arrangements private.
