Farrar, Bryan

Blauvelt, NY - Tappan Location

Bryan Farrar, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at his home in Blauvelt, NY, after a short illness. Bryan was born in Blackpool, England, on May 14, 1932. At the young age of 15 he ran off to Paris and began working in the hotel business there. He met his beautiful bride of 65 years, Maureen Brannigan, who he lovingly called Molly, while they were both working at the Dorchester in London. The couple made the decision in 1957 to take the Queen Mary across the Atlantic to New York, where they settled into Blauvelt and raised their three children.

Bryan was immediately drafted into the US Army and, after being honorably discharged, began what would be a 61-year career as a well-liked and highly respected executive in various hotels in New York City, including the Drake, Warwick, St. Moritz and New Yorker. He spent his retirement doting on his wife, visiting his summer home in the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains, and spending quality time with friends and family. Bryan and Maureen traveled the world together well into their senior years, filling pages and pages with passport stamps from around the globe, having visited over 65 countries.

Bryan was an active member at St. Catharine’s Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time at the local senior center, traveling with the group to Broadway plays in NYC and many other places around the country. He enjoyed dining out at fine restaurants, a good glass of wine, tinkering in the yard, dancing at the Irish Center (dancing anywhere actually!) and watching his favorite sports teams. He was an avid fan of American Football (Giants/Jets), baseball (Mets) and English football, especially Blackpool, England soccer. Bryan and Maureen also loved watching Jeopardy and had a standing date at 7:00 every night with Alex Trebek.

Bryan, known for his incredible sense of humor and love for his family, was an amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather and is survived by his loving wife, Maureen Farrar, his three children, Karen Becchetti (Scott) of Walden, NY, Michael Farrar (Cindy) of Pomona, NY, and Stephen Farrar (Margaret) of Milton, GA, as well as his four grandchildren - Michael Chase, Kelly Creswick (Michael), Griffin Farrar, and Annalisa Farrar - and his great-grandson, Cooper Creswick.

Special thanks to his aides, Helena and Liz, for their care and support over the last few months.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28th from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan, and a celebration of his life/Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catharine’s Catholic Church in Blauvelt on Thursday, Oct. 29th at 11am.
