Brummer, Hans

Tappan, NY

Hans Brummer, a longtime resident of Tappan, NY, passed away peacefully on October 26th at the J. Raso Hospice Residence in New City.

Hans was born in Hochspeyer, Germany to Simon and Katerina Brummer on February 4, 1929. He was an engineer by trade and in 1957 immigrated to the United States to live in Manhattan on 86th Street until moving to Rockland County in 1960.

Hans enjoyed his home in Upstate New York where he channeled the pioneering lifestyle he was so dearly a fan of. He loved Westerns and favorite TV shows like “Little House on the Prairie.” Stories of his own outdoor adventures, surviving WWII and the wonders of nature were a mealtime tradition. One such adventure was a roundtrip bike ride from Germany to Italy with 3 friends on 3-speed bikes. Hans’ mantra was making the most out of very little. He thought himself a very rich man.

Hans is preceded in death by his wife G. Ruth Brummer and his son Hans Juergen, his brothers Walter and Herbert and sister Elizabeth Brummer. He is survived by his daughter Cornelia, brother Simon and sister Veronica Hilzensauer.

This is a private service for family only due to the Covid crisis. A celebration of Hans’ life with family and friends will be held at a later date.
