Hirt, Robert E.

Blauvelt, NY - Tappan Location

Robert E. Hirt passed away suddenly on February 12, 2021 in the comfort of his home within the warm embrace of his family. Born April 15 1932 in the Bronx, New York, to Josie and Emil Hirt, Robert, fondly, and better  known as “Bob”, was the older brother of Philip. From 1950 - 1953, Bob served with distinction in the Korean War as a member of the US Army. Upon his return to America, he rejoined his family and high school sweetheart, Joan. They married in 1955. Bob was always the image of a caring father and husband who had a career in the financial services industry by day and returned home after each working day, only to roll up his sleeves to play with his children and educate them as a quiet role model. Bob was the definition of a reasonable man augmented by his patience, gentility, and innate ability to listen rather then speak.
Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, two children Donna and Robert Jr., and four grandchildren (Ian, Jenna, Samantha, Robert) , for whom his pride was boundless.  His unconditional love for his family was only rivaled by for his lifelong passion for the NY Yankees which he shared with his wife Joan. They attended 21 Yankee spring trainings in Florida amassing many chapters of fond memories along the way.  Bob’s positive spirit for life will be a guiding light for his family forever.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 17, 12pm, at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan with burial to follow at Tappan Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 9am - 12pm at the funeral home.
