Alice Kivlehan (nee Sherry, McElroy) passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026 after a brief illness surrounded by family. Born on February 12, 1935 to Patrick and Lily Sherry in Manhattan, NYC, Alice and her family moved back to the Bog Road, Scotstown, Co. Monaghan Ireland when she was 2 years old. She lived in Scotstown until coming to New York in 1954 to live with her cousins, the Boylans. Alice worked as a switchboard operator for New York Telephone and later as a receptionist at Lehn & Fink where she retired in 1994. Alice married her first husband, Eugene McElroy in 1962 and moved to Pearl River, New York in 1966. Alice and Eugene had three daughters, Elizabeth, Patricia, and Colleen. Eugene died of lung cancer in 1985. Alice remarried in 1995 to Martin Kivlehan and moved to West Nyack, New York. Martin passed away in 2019 from Alzheimer’s. Alice was a loving grandmother to Dylan Meehan, Aidan Meehan, Teresa Surlis, Kai Surlis, and Marie Surlis.

Alice was also “Auntie Alice” to nieces and nephews from both marriages and “Granny Alice” to their children. She loved spending time with them and watching them grow from children to adults who would then start their own families. She listened attentively to their challenges with parenting and gave love and encouragement. She felt blessed to be part of their lives.

Alice loved being with her family and friends. She loved going on cruises and attending Irish get-togethers and parties. She loved playing card games. She loved dancing and singing and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune with her family. Alice loved spending the cold winters in Florida with the Roches, Daveys, and Kivlehans. Alice babysat her grandchildren at every opportunity and attended every tennis match, lacrosse game, bowling tournament, cheerleader competition, soccer game, school play, birthday party, graduation party, and holiday with her family. She welcomed her son-in-laws, Frank, Kevin, and Paul, to the family with open arms and enjoyed their company.

Alice was a devout catholic and member of St. Catharine’s parish in Blauvelt, NY. She considered the church her second home. She would like to thank the St. Catharine’s community for all of their prayers.

Alice is predeceased by her siblings: Francis, Margaret, James, and John, and her two husbands: Eugene McElroy and Martin Kivlehan.

Alice is survived by her three daughters and son-in laws: Elizabeth (Frank), Patricia (Kevin), and Colleen(Paul) and her five grandchildren, Dylan, Aidan, Teresa, Kai, and Marie. She is also survived by members of the extended Sherry, McElroy, Kivlehan, and Boylan families.
