IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann A.
Melia
October 1, 1927 – April 14, 2023
Ann A. Melia passed away on April 14, 2023 at the age of 95. She was born in Piermont, NY to John and Mary Cardascia DeLorenzo on October 1, 1927.
The second youngest of 13 children, Ann was a first generation Italian American. She was determined to succeed as the only sibling to graduate from high school in a time where both high school completion and females in particular graduating with a diploma was frowned upon. She would later tell her family that she did not want to work in a factory which is why she was determined to graduate. Upon graduation, she got a job in the office of the local factory in the payroll department (she loved working with numbers). She met her husband Ken after seeing him on the street and was introduced by a mutual friend (Walter Shea). As Ann would often recount, she graduated in 47, got engaged in '48, and married in '49!
Ann lived life on her own terms. A proud homemaker, she and her husband Ken made their dreams come true when they purchased a little house on the Hudson River in Piermont that she fell in love with as a child. There they raised a family and made it their home for over 60 years.
She was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Piermont. Ann had a lively sense of humor and was making those around her laugh right up until her final days. She was a positive thinker and a steady and grounding presence to those around her. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures - telling stories, reading, gardening, bowling, taking walks, dinner with family and friends, saving room for dessert, playing daily games of Yahtzee and rooting for her NY Giants. She also enjoyed traveling and attending many events with her husband Ken over the years. Most of all, she loved her family.
Ann is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Kenneth Melia, Sr. and her eight brothers and sisters who survived to adulthood; Vince, Vera, Sal, Ralph, Frank, Phil, Betty and Grace. Ann is survived by her children Ken Jr. (Patricia), Robert (Tamara) and Bettyann Connor (Jeffrey); her grandchildren, Kimberly Jordan (Tim), Keith Melia (Kaytlin Cassidy) and Kelly Kitson (Sean), Aislinn and Shannon Melia, Brendan Connor (Amanda) and Tara Murphy (Steve) and her great grandchildren; Mia, Arianna and Gianna Jordan, Kolton and Kodi Melia, Claire Kitson and Aubrey, Gavin and Nora Connor. She was very excited to recently learn that she has another great grand-baby on the way.
Ann's family would like to express sincere gratitude to her hospice team, Cassidy, Sue, Robin, Kristy and Courtney, and all those who helped make her final weeks as comfortable as possible.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11:30am at St. John the Baptist Church in Piermont with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet. Visiting hours will be 4-7pm.
