Obituary

Anthony L. Fitzgibbon, of Upper Grandview, passed away on Good Friday, April 18th.

He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Angela; and two nieces, Meredith of Tennessee, and Tracy of California.

Retiring at 60, he worked for Grace Line, Alitalia Airlines, lastly at St. Thomas Aquinas College. Tony was the No. 1 cargo salesman for Alitalia Airlines handling the Iranian account  from 1968 to 1983. When the Shah was deposed all of his contacts were executed. Tony found it difficult because he became good friends with most of them. During his time at Alitalia, he and his wife Angela, who was also in sales would travelled extensively through Europe, North Africa, South American, North America and the Caribbean.

Tony was an intellectual and was an aficionado of history. He loved cats. At one point he and his wife had 13 outside cats neutered. Unfortunately, there are only two outside cats remaining. He was also a very proud Irishman and a very devout Catholic. Tony loved St. Francis and the Pope. Coincidentally, the Pope died the day after Easter. I hope they are having a good conversation up in Heaven! May God Bless Him! He will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Remembrance will be said on June 29th, 11:30am, at St. Ann's in Nyack.
