IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arthur Sabino
Aversa
January 1, 1933 – January 3, 2025
Arthur Sabino Aversa, Art or Artie, as he was affectionately known by friends and family, was a funny, kind, and loving man, who always enjoyed being around friends and family with a glass of wine or a sweet dessert.
Art, 92, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, entered into eternal rest on January 3, 2025.
Art was born on New Year's Day in the Bronx, New York in 1933 to Dora and Frank Aversa. Art was close to his older sister Dotty who took care of him as a child, until her passing at 8 years old. Art had fun with his younger brother, Frank, teaching him how to pitch a baseball and protecting him fiercely in the streets of the Bronx. Their close relationship allowed them to enjoy hunting trips together in the Adirondacks, living near each other in both Rockland County, NY and Port St Lucie, FL.
Art attended Evander Childs High School prior to joining the Army in 1952. He served his country in the Korean War receiving several medals including three Bronze Stars, United Nations Medal and a National Defense Medal.
Art was predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years in 2007, Mary Ann, . She was the love of his life and his sweetheart. They created a loving life together, raising three boys in Orangeburg, NY and were parishioners of St. Catharine's in Blauvelt, NY. Art and Mary Ann loved to travel with their friends, play tennis and go bowling. They enjoyed many Sunday dinners at their home with family and in the summers, you could always find Art in the pool with the boys and their dogs, Buck and Rocky. Art and Mary Ann retired to Port St Lucie, where they started the next chapter of their lives, making more friends, having lots of fun in the Kings Isle Community. Art enjoyed riding his bike throughout the neighborhood every day well into his late 80's. His favorite spot was the Kings Isle Pool where he could be found talking to everyone. Every Wednesday night he would go to dinner with his son, Richard, and loved talking about the meal he had whether it was bbq ribs or his favorite, chicken francese. He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Port St Lucie, attending mass every Sunday.
He was a hard working husband and father, always providing for his family. He retired from AT&T where he worked for over 30 years. He was a man among men and always made sure his family came first and was taken care of before his own needs.
In his younger years, Art was known to be a master wood worker, creating many amazing wooden projects including furniture or picture frames which the family treasures to this day. He was the type of guy who could fix anything that was broken and enjoyed the challenge. He was a master mind when it came to word puzzles of any kind or Sudoku. His vast knowledge of various life topics made him a sociable guy who got along with anyone he met.
Art's memory will be kept alive by his sons, Art and his wife Alison, Richard and his partner Laurie, Robert and his wife Lisa. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Nicolas, his wife Kait, Samantha, her husand Kyle and Anthony, as well as his great- grandchildren Sophia and Kacey.
Art also leaves behind his heart broken brother Frank and sister-in-law Joyce, nephew and niece Frankie and Gina, along with their families.
Art will always be remembered for his witty humor, intelligent mind, and impressive athletic skills well into his 80's. We couldn't have asked for a better father and we will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.
