Athena Hatzis, 74, of Orangeburg NY, passed peacefully on September 10th surrounded by her family. She was born in Kastoria, Greece on February 20 th , 1948, the eldest daughter of Konstantinos and Kalliope Kletsidis.
Athena was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. After moving to Orangeburg in 1978, Athena became vibrantly involved in the Greek Orthodox Community of Rockland County. She served lovingly in the Ladies Philoptochos, and her beautiful voice could be heard in the Choir of St. Constantine and Helen Church of West Nyack.
She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by husband, Ioannis Hatzis, sons Naoum and Konstantinos, Daughter in Laws, Angela and Laura, Grandchildren, John, Zoe, and Joseph, siblings Maria (Father Peter Karloutsos), Tasia (Vasili Bougiouklis), and Lazaros (Anna), as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is welcoming relatives and friends to St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1 Marycrest Road, West Nyack NY, 10994, on September 13th at 10:30 am for the viewing, to be followed by services at 11:00, and the burial at Rockland Cemetery, 201 Kings Highway, Sparkill NY, 10976. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Basil Academy, 79 St Basil Road, Garrison, NY 10524, or St Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of West Nyack.
