Obituary

Audrey Jane Mullin (née Hartye), cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 16th at Nyack Hospital following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her daughters, Kerry Jane Beckmann (William) and Kyle Jane Kitchenman (Michael); her grandson, Will Beckmann; granddaughter, Katie Jane Mahon (Terence); and great-granddaughter, Madelyn Jane Mahon. Audrey was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard, in 2005.

Born on June 10th, 1930, in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Evelyn and Sylvester Hartye, Audrey's early years were marked by the backdrop of World War II, a time she vividly remembered for attending the celebration in Times Square on VE Day. Her family later welcomed her brother, Herbert, with whom she shared a close bond until his passing.

A dynamic and involved student, Audrey was active in numerous school activities at Clifton High School. With a passion for nursing, she diligently worked and saved to enroll in the Nursing program at Hackensack Hospital, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. It was there she met her future husband, Richard (Dick) Mullin, through a serendipitous meeting arranged by his father who was one of Audrey's patients. Married on May 29, 1955, Audrey and Richard settled in New Milford, NJ, before building their dream home in "rural" Blauvelt in Rockland County. Their family grew with the arrival of daughters Kerry and Kyle.

Furthering her education, Audrey earned a master's degree in Geriatric Care and was hired as the Staff Development trainer at the Yeager Health Center. Audrey was a founding member and on the Board of Home Aides of Rockland, and was also a board member of the Rockland Health Center Day Care Center. Known for her outgoing nature and generosity, Audrey sought to uplift those around her, both professionally and personally.

Audrey's commitment extended beyond her career to active participation in her community. She was a dedicated member of the Republican Party, a trustee and Vice President of the Blauvelt Library.

Audrey truly enjoyed her retirement years with friends from various local groups. Audrey loved her retirement years and her time with her friends from St. Catharine's, the Blauvelt-Orangeburg Seniors, the Red Hats, and her beloved  "Coffee Club". Audrey also enjoyed traveling, whether it was journeys to Florida with her daughter Kyle, spending summer weekends at Saratoga alongside Richard, Shirley, and Herb, or exploring new destinations with her daughter Kerry. In her later years, Audrey and Katie embraced the joy of travel, annually planning trips to new all-inclusive resorts each winter and spring break.

Faith played a central role in Audrey's life. She was a devoted member of St. Catharine's Parish in Blauvelt, engaged in Bible study, and served as a lector until health challenges intervened. Attending Sunday mass was a source of great joy and spiritual fulfillment for her.

Audrey's family celebrates her remarkable life, grateful for the years shared and the lessons imparted. In her memory, donations can be made to St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt or the Blauvelt Free Library . Audrey's warmth, wisdom, and enduring faith will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
