Dr. Bruce Stephan of Piermont, NY, passed away on December 28, 2023, at the age of 81. He was born in New York City on March 16, 1942, to Howard and Edna Stephan. He is survived by his devoted wife Julia Ann (Jan) Stephan, three children Jennifer Stephan (John-Scott Smokelin), Howard Stephan (Robin), and Andrew Stephan, and nine grandchildren Isabel, Hannah, Camille, Jordan, Alexa, Tyler, Spencer, Piper, and Ainsley.

Bruce was a Renaissance man. He dedicated his career to teaching mathematics. He was a professor at Webb Institute of Naval Architecture for 35 years, educating generations of students. He also loved teaching his own children and grandchildren mathematics and tutored many others. Outside of work he was an avid musician who loved to sing and play the guitar, a polyglot who took every opportunity to practice his German and Russian, and an artisan who built numerous beautiful items out of wood. Bruce was an adventurer and loved to camp, walk, and travel. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to diverse places together and took each grandchild on a meaningful trip.

A funeral service will be held at Saturday, March 9th, 2pm, at the Christ Church in Sparkill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association ( https://www.alz.org/ ).
