Cynthia A. Burgos (nèe Cynthia Arce Ursulich), longtime resident of Tappan, NY, peacefully passed away on March 29, 2024 in Rockleigh, NJ. Born June 30, 1934 in Harlem, NY, she was predeceased by her loving parents, Caridad Ursulich Arce and George Felipe Arce, sister Georgiana Perez, brother George Arce, Jr., and loving husband, William Burgos Marrero. She is survived by sons, Nelson Burgos, William Burgos and Peter Burgos, daughter-in-law Yuki Moriya, and grandson Armando T. Burgos.
A graduate of Music and Art High School in Manhattan, she went on to pursue her Bachelors Degree in Music at Hunter College in Manhattan, and her Masters Degree in Spanish at SUNY New Paltz. She retired in 1989 after 21 years as a Spanish Teacher at Pearl River High School. She was member and Organist and Choir Director of Transfiguration Lutheran Church, Bronx, Zion Lutheran Church in Harlem, Calvary Lutheran Church in the Bronx, and Organist and Choir Director Emerita at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Old Tappan NJ; a career spanning over 60 years. She was also a longtime member of the Rockland County Choral Society and Morning Music Club in Rockland County, NY. She did her first piano recital concert at Carnegie Hall at the age of 15. Her musical talents were extraordinary and inspirational. She sang like an angel.
A devoted and loving wife, mother, teacher and friend of countless colleagues and fellow musicians, her lively spirit and heart of gold will be sorely missed by all those who knew her and loved her. She was, simply, the best.
Her wake will be Monday, April 1st, 3-6pm, at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 2nd, 10am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with her burial to follow at Frederick Loescher Veteran Memorial Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
