With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Daniel Jeremy Drobenko, affectionately known as “Danylko” and lovingly called “IKO,” who passed away peacefully on November 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, following a courageous battle with neuroblastoma.
Having celebrated his third birthday just three days earlier, Daniel's life, though far too short, was filled with extraordinary love, laughter, and a strength that inspired everyone who knew him. He was a warrior and a fighter, but above all, he was a happy little boy who found joy in the simplest things. His bright smile, playful spirit, gentle heart, and contagious personality touched countless lives.
Daniel had a way of making everyone around him smile. His signature thumbs-up, enthusiastic “cheese,” and his trusty pipkas were never far behind. He loved cars and trucks, watching Bluey and Gecko's Garage, and listening to songs about his favorite vehicles, especially “Dylan the Dumper Truck.” At home, he was adored by his loyal dog brother, Duke. He loved taking Duke, his four-legged brother, on walks to the firehouse and walking to school to drop off or pick up his beloved big sister, Kathryn, eagerly looking forward to the day when he would be big enough to walk through those school doors and join her inside. He had a special love for croissants from Humphrey's, whether it was morning or late afternoon, and one of his simple daily pleasures was feeding the fish his leftover Cheerios at the Haworth Pond. These familiar routines and little adventures were what made Daniel's world so special and are the memories his family will treasure forever.
To those who loved him most, Daniel was forever their IKO. One of the sweetest sounds his family will carry in their hearts is hearing him call his beloved big sister, Kathryn, “Nana.” Their bond was truly one of a kind. She was his protector, playmate, biggest cheerleader, and best friend. The love they shared will forever remain one of the most precious parts of Daniel's story.
Daniel was the cherished son of Peter and Larysa, whose love and devotion surrounded him through every moment of his life. He was their greatest blessing and little hero. He was also a treasured grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, bringing endless happiness to everyone fortunate enough to be part of his world.
Throughout Daniel's journey, his family was surrounded by an extraordinary circle of support. They will forever be grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hackensack University Medical Center for their compassion, dedication, and kindness. Their care carried Daniel and his family through countless difficult days. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to the Haworth community and neighboring communities, whose prayers, generosity, encouragement, and unwavering support brought strength and comfort throughout this journey. The kindness shown by friends, neighbors, schools, organizations, and even strangers will never be forgotten.
Among the family's most treasured keepsakes are the beautiful handprints created shortly before Daniel's passing, capturing the hands of Daniel, Kathryn, Larysa, and Peter together. A lasting reminder that their hands, their hearts, and their love will forever be intertwined.
Though Daniel's time on earth was brief, his impact was extraordinary. He brought people together, inspired kindness, and reminded so many of what truly matters. While his family's hearts are broken by this unimaginable loss, they find comfort in knowing that Daniel knew how deeply he was loved. His memory will live on in every story told, every smile shared, and every act of kindness inspired by the little boy who touched so many lives.
Daniel leaves behind his loving parents, Peter and Larysa; his devoted big sister, Kathryn (“Nana”); his beloved dog brother, Duke; his grandparents, godparents, extended family, and countless friends and supporters who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 11am at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Haworth, NJ.
Private Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery.
A Repass Luncheon will follow at White Beeches Golf and Country Club.
The family kindly requests donations be made to the DanielStrong Foundation via Zelle (LDrobenko@danielstrongfoundation.org) or by Check made payable to DanielStrong Foundation in lieu of floral arrangements. Donations will carry forward Daniel's legacy of hope, love, and support for other families facing childhood cancer.
Thank you to everyone who has loved Daniel, prayed for him, and stood beside our family. Your kindness and support will forever be part of his story.
Some people only walk this earth for a short time, but the love they leave behind lasts a lifetime. Daniel's three years changed more lives than most could in a hundred.Forever loved. Forever our warrior. Forever our IKO. 💙
