IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dolores Richards
Delorenzo
August 16, 2022
Dolores Richards DeLorenzo of Blauvelt, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on August 16, 2022.
Dolores is survived by her twin sister Mary Louise Ralph. The twins were born on November 28, 1928 to Pilar and Eugene Salaices of Astoria, New York. They both graduated from Julia Richmond High School and Queens College in New York and were active members of the Theta Sigma Sorority.
Dolores and her first husband Elliot (Ted) Richards purchased their home in Blauvelt in the mid-fifties. She was widowed at the age of 32 but remained in the same house until her passing. In 1974 she married Philip DeLorenzo; they were married for 43 years until his passing in 2017.
A dedicated and enthusiastic 5th grade teacher in the East Ramapo School District for over 30 years, "Mrs. D" was a profound influence on generations of children. A long time parishioner of St. Catharine's Parish where she served as past-President of the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Blauvelt-Orangeburg Seniors Club and until recently the Blauvelt Library where she was a member of the Avid Readers Book Club and the Pearl River Library Bridge Group.
Dolores is survived by her four children, Mary Happ (Charles), Barbara Salmon (George), Jeanne Goldrick (Kevin), and Matthew Richards (Valerie); nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Caroline, Ian, Paul, Patrick, Matthew, Ben, Max; and 10 great grandchildren, Griffin, Hallie, Elizabeth, Thompson, William, Benjamin, Tomas, Alicia, Sofia and Abigail.
The family is most grateful for the caring neighbors of Hayes Street in Blauvelt who were always there for her especially in her later years. We are incredibly grateful to Deirdre K. whose love and caregiving skills allowed us to give our mother a great quality of life in her own home for the past two years.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, August 24th, 10am at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, August, 23rd, 4-8pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. Donations may be made in her memory to the Rockland County Animal Shelter, 65 Firemens Memorial Drive, Pomona, NY 10970 (845-354-7900 or https://www.countyoffice.org/rockland-county-animal-shelter-pomona-ny-ebd/ ).
