Obituary

Dolores Quevedo passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 12th at the age of 74.  Dolores was a loving person who was a gifted nurse and always put others first.  She was very intelligent, gentle and had quiet kindness.  Dolores was a good listener and always made others feel special and cared for, whether in her nursing career or with family and friends.  She also loved animals and her cats and had compassion for cats who needed a home.  She was a member of Helping Felines in Need where she helped to trap, neuter and return cats to their sanctuary.  Dolores always had a great sense of humor and lived her life with humility and grace.  In her spare time, she loved watching golf on tv and reading Historical books.

Dolores was born in Queens and was the daughter of John and Rita Quevedo.  She grew up in Queens and was an avid water skier.  After attending All Saints in Brooklyn, she attended the University of Bridgeport College of Nursing and received her BSN and became an RN.  From 1970-1973, she worked in the United States Navy Nurse Corps, where she cared for severely wounded men and women.  From there, she went on to work for Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel for the next 20 years, where she served as a Charge Nurse and worked in the Oncology Unit.  She was involved in patient/family teaching during this time, where there was a team approach to illness.  From 1996-1998, Dolores went on to work at Danbury Hospital Center where she worked in the Medical Surgical unit and in 1998, she worked in Home Care Cases for three Oncology cases.  She was involved in quality-of-life care during this time and helped patients with activities of daily living and emotional and psychological support.  From 2000 on, Dolores worked on three Hospice Care cases.  She had an incredible ability to provide compassion for people that were receiving end-of-life treatment.

Dolores was the daughter of the late John and Rita Quevedo and is survived by her brother John Quevedo (Margaret), her cousin Anthony (Kathy), her three nephews, Michael Quevedo (Laura), Joe Quevedo (Joanne) and James Quevedo (Rebecca).  She was a great Aunt to Michael Jr., Thomas, Billy, Millie Peterson (Kyle), Natalie, Kyle, Jillie, Grace and Ben Quevedo.  She was also blessed to have been a Great, Great Aunt to Stella Peterson, who just turned one in June.  Dolores was proud of her family and supportive.  She was a wonderful daughter, sister, Aunt and Cousin who will be missed by her family.  There are so many countless people that she also affected during her long nursing history- a beautiful contribution in her life and she will be forever remembered by so many.  She gave without limitations.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 17th from 1-3pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 18th at the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan at 10 am, followed by the burial at the Tappan Reformed Cemetery.
