Obituary

Dominic "Danny" Romano, 91, of Maywood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that touched everyone who knew him. Born and raised in Hoboken, Danny was a devoted husband to Rose Fortunato, whom he married in 1961; together, they built a beautiful life in Maywood, where they raised their daughter, Annette, who later welcomed her husband, Chris Merlini, into the family.  Danny was a very proud grandfather to Allaire and Anyssa Merlini, who brought him immense joy and filled his heart with pride.
He is survived by his beloved sisters, Maria Garguilo and Carmella Belgiovine, and was predeceased by his parents, Gaetano and Rosa Romano, as well as his siblings, Antoinette Kovich, Peter, Pascuale, Angelo "Charlie,"  & Frank Romano,  all of whom shaped his early life and values.
A dedicated professional, Danny spent over 50 years as a deli manager for A&P supermarkets, where his infectious smile and friendly demeanor made him a cherished figure among customers and coworkers alike; he was known not just for his work ethic, but also for the kindness he extended to everyone he met. In addition to his successful career, Danny served in the Army from 1956 to 1957 in Europe, an experience that instilled in him a sense of duty and commitment to his community that would define much of his later life.
After retiring, he continued to serve his community as a crossing guard for Maywood Schools, always looking out for the safety of the children; this role allowed him to engage with the younger generation, fostering connections that enriched his later years. Danny took great pride in his home, with highlights including his perfectly manicured and edged lawn and his beloved fig tree, which became a symbol of his dedication to nurturing life in all its forms.
Danny was a huge supporter of Dance Dimensions, always helping around the studio and attending every event in support of his daughter.  He was also an avid cook who loved to share his culinary creations and collect recipes, bringing family and friends together around the table, where laughter and stories flowed as freely as the food he prepared. A long-time parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Maywood, Danny's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both good times and challenges.
He was an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews, who fondly remember his kindness and unwavering love for them. Danny's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.  His warmth, humor, and steadfast devotion to family will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Food Brigade (www.foodbrigade.org)  honoring his spirit of giving and love for his community.
