Emmet P.
Nevin Sr.
September 15, 1926 – April 11, 2023
Emmet P. Nevin Sr., died April 11th after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family and devoted nurse Leonora Keanneally, throughout the day. Father of Msgr. Emmet R. Nevin pastor of St. Aedan Church, Pearl River. He was 96. Emmet was born in Yonkers on September 15, 1926 to Emmet T. and Florence (Engel) Nevin. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Catharine's and a resident of Blauvelt for 49 years and at Dowling Gardens, Sparkill, for 16 years.
Emmet is survived by his sons Msgr. Emmet, Mark (Terri), Jeffrey (Maureen) and 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Thomas (Joan) Nevin. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Roberta and his daughter Karen (Nevin) Loniewski.
During World War II, Emmet served in the U.S. Navy, Atlantic and Pacific theaters, as a Pharmacist Mate (1943-1946). After his honorable discharge, he was employed by the New York Telephone Company (1947-1984) and retired as an Assistant Vice President of Special Services. The retirement didn't last long as Emmet went on to become president of ONC Enterprises, Inc., a company he founded with another retired TelCo officer. He was also President of Phoenix Telecom in Rochester and later Vice President of Telesciences, NJ. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of ATD Corporation.
Emmet was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Dominic's Council, Blauvelt and the American Legion Perry Post. He was also a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of the Association of Bellltel Retirees, Inc.
Of all of Emmet's many accomplishments in life, his true and lasting legacy will be that he was a devoted husband and loving and supportive father. He will also, be remembered for his wonderful wit and sense of humor which was evident wherever he was. He was all about family. The most important place in his heart was home and family. He always made time to take his wife and family on many trips and vacations. As the family patriarch, he was a central figure in the lives of his family and a loyal and caring friend to many others. He was often referred to as "the rock" which gave stability and strength to his family, especially during a time of need. Emmet's 96 years were truly God's gift to his family and friends who take comfort in knowing that he is now in a better place with all those who have died and gone before him.
Viewing will be Friday from 4 – 8pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 10am at Saint Aedan Church, 23 Reld Drive, Pearl River with interment to follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. Donations may be sent to the Saint Aedan Food Pantry.
