On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, Eugene Francis McCarty Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at age 86.

Eugene "Gene" was born in the Bronx, NY, on January 5, 1936, to Francis and Elizabeth McCarty. Gene grew up in Rockland and graduated from Nyack High School. After high school, Gene enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS ALLAGASH during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married his beloved wife, Ellen, and then bought McCarty's Egg Farm, the "family farm" where they raised five children Elizabeth (Richard) Trubiroha, Eugene McCarty Jr., Kim (David) Hodges, Bryant (Maureen) McCarty, and Dawn (Chris) Gloede.

Gene was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Piermont and served many years as Quartermaster. He was dedicated to his community and served as Usher at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Tappan.

Over the past two years, while Gene was on hospice, the family was blessed to have his devoted attendant Lamour, who faithfully championed his care till the very end.

Gene was a proud and caring grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Irene Scott, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 23, 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 120 Kings Highway, Tappan, NY. Visiting hours will be held Friday, July 22, from 4 to 8 PM at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers, honor Gene with donations to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital ( www.stjude.org ).
