George E. Lofmark Jr. of Brooklyn, NY, Norwood and West Orange, NJ, passed away at the age of 90 on January 24, 2022. George was born in Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, son of Alice Boberg Lofmark and George Edgar Lofmark Sr. on Dec. 9, 1931.
George is survived by his loving wife and dance partner Marit Aarnes Lofmark of 67 years and their five children; Randi Gordon, Gloria (Roger), Vivian (Garry) Ommundsen, Sandra (Bill) Borland and Erik (RuthAnn) Lofmark. He was a special Pop-Pop to 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and three on their way. Uncle George will also be missed by his late sister Gloria Gustafson's daughters in California, Carol, Barbara and Lois.

A graduate of Fort Hamilton High School ('51), George was the president of his senior class. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict as an electrician on the USS Saipan CVL 48. Upon returning home, George was able to use those acquired skills as an installer with the Bell Telephone Co. while completing his degree at Pace University of NY. George enjoyed a career that progressed with the phone company for 30 years. Upon retirement, George was an adjunct professor at Iona, Dominican and Concordia colleges. For several years, George served the Lutheran Church as a financial counselor.

After completing his Lay Ministry training at Concordia University in Mequon, WI and a residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at Eger Nursing Home on Staten Island, NY, George served as a chaplain at Pascack Valley, Englewood Hospital and Cranes's Mill retirement community in West Caldwell.

George was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. As a longtime resident of Norwood, NJ, George volunteered for many years, coordinating hiking trips with the BSA Troop 120.

George is best remembered for his exuberant storytelling, whether it was about growing up in Brooklyn, his adventures in the Navy or hiking the Appalachian Trail. His and Marit's love and enthusiasm for their Vermont farmhouse is shared by his family and will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Funeral arrangements will be privately held with a memorial service to celebrate his life. The service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Closter, NJ on Saturday, February 26th at 11am.
