Gloria J. (Johnson) Glidden passed away at Nyack Hospital on March 10, 2026 at the age of 79. She was born on May 6, 1946 at Nyack Hospital to the late Charles Whitney and Ruth (Foley) Johnson.
She lived in Blauvelt during her childhood, having graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 1964. She attended college afterward at Rockland Community College. Her employment included working for the State of New York Office of Mental Health from 1986 to 2002, first at the Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center as a secretary, and then at the Office’s Cook Chill facility, both in Orangeburg, NY. Later she worked part time as a cashier for Shoprite at the Pearl River location. She was also a member of the Blauvelt Volunteer Fire Company in the Ladies Auxiliary, thus becoming a life member. She was also a member of the LARCVFA and LAFASNY. She enjoyed playing bingo, yarn work and also making hats for veterans. She was a wonderful person, very sweet, kind of heart and generous of spirit. She was one of those people that leaves a space when she’s gone.
She is survived by her 3 children, Charles, Kathy and Terrence, 5 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, as well as by her sister Wendy Kay and both nieces Gertrude and Mary Kay, and her Nephew William Kay Jr. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by a sister Dierdre, who passed away as a child, and her brother-in-law William Kay Sr.
Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May 9th at about 9AM. The memorial service will follow, taking place at The Blauvelt Volunteer Fire Company firehouse on Saturday, May 9th, 2026 at 12PM.. A reception will follow the memorial service itself. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the Blauvelt Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary.
