Hilda Silva

Hilda Silva, a resident of Blauvelt, NY, for 64 years, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026.

Hilda served as a dedicated teacher in the South Orangetown School District for 25 years. A faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Old Tappan, NJ, for 63 years, she blessed many with her beautiful lyric soprano voice. She generously shared her gift of music with her church, various non-profit organizations, and by singing patriotic songs at government events and programs.

Hilda is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Rafael Silva Sr. The couple was married at Transfiguration Lutheran Church in the Bronx, N.Y., on June 4, 1955, where they were active members from 1948 to 1962.

She is also survived by her six children: Danette, Nanette (Peter), Lorraine (Daniel), Rafael Jr. (Laura), Glenn (Julie), and Cassandra (Michael); her eight grandchildren: Tiffany Lee (Anthony), Dana Marie (Todd), Joseph Rafael (Christine), Caitlin (Chris), Ashley (Ty), Jessica (Josh), Celene (Kyle), and Monica; and her nine great-grandchildren: Angelo James, Adriana Rose, Parker Glenn, Jack Justin, Carmela Grace, Charlie Daniel, Oliver James, Aubrey Carter, and Leon Joseph.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Moritz Funeral Home, 98 Route 303, Tappan, NY. A funeral service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 106 Orangeburg Road, Old Tappan, NJ, on Saturday, August 1, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at The Reformed Church Cemetery in Tappan, N.Y., immediately after the service.
