IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet
Piscitelli
August 21, 1961 – January 24, 2023
Janet Piscitelli, age 61, passed peacefully on January 24th after a courageous two year health battle.
Janet was born in the Bronx and was raised in Blauvelt, New York. She was an alumnus of Tappan Zee High School and graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent before earning her doctorate in medicine from the SUNY Downstate Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Janet led a lengthy medical career as a clinical pathologist; she loved to be in the lab, and distinguished herself as the Vice President and Chief Laboratory Officer of Quest Diagnostics and the Chair of the Hematology Committee for the College of American Pathologists. She returned to academic medicine in 2020 as the Director of Pathology and Laboratory Services for Westchester Medical Center, teaching the next generation of laboratorians and making it her mission to better provide essential testing to a local hospital system.
When she wasn't in the lab, Janet found joy traveling, baking, and admiring her view of the Hudson River from her Piermont, NY home. Janet led an active lifestyle, completing two triathlons and traveling to dozens of countries with her family. Known for her spirit of adventure, she never shied away from a lengthy bike ride or an ocean wave twice her size. But Janet's greatest joy in life were her three daughters, to whom she was a devoted mother — staying up late building dioramas, cheering on sporting events, baking elaborate birthday cakes, helping with college essays, and providing sage career advice. She had a particular soft spot for her grand-pets, Tuck, Chip, and Meiomi.
Preceded by her mother, Catherine, Janet is survived by her fiancé, Geoff Monk; her three daughters Lauren (Gentry) Kowall, Alyssa Bosso, and Erica Bosso; her father, Albert; and her three sisters Regina (Rich) Holihan, Phyllis (Gordie) Favre, and Mariann (Ron) Gribben.
Family and friends will gather at St. Catharine of Alexandria Parish, 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY for a Memorial Mass at 11am on Saturday, January 28th. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sarcoma Foundation of America would be appreciated by her family.
