A lifelong resident of Closter, passed away December 21, 2023.  The love of his life was Janet, his soulmate and bride of 43 years. John used to say to Janet, our lives are an adventure. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2014. He would always say, "I can't beat it, but I'm not giving up". Devoted father of Heather Urban and husband Brian,  Sheila Miller and husband Andrew and Ashley Russenberger and husband Robert, cherished "Teetah" of Oliver Urban, Hazel Urban, Avery Miller and John Miller. Loving brother of Joseph, Christine and James. Cherished uncle of Justin Hofmann, Samantha Hofmann, Danny Falcone, Brenda Falcone, Stephanie Schumacher, Jeff Pierce, and Tristan Hofmann.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, dear uncle, and will be forever missed. He was a 50 year member of the Closter Fire Department, a 7 year member of the Closter Planning Board and a long time softball coach for the Closter Recreation Commission. He was a loyal NY Yankee fan and a longtime NY Giants ticket holder. John was the owner of J.F. Hofmann Incorporated, his general contracting business. John retired from Kuiken Brothers Lumber Company in 2018 after 24 years.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 4-8 pm, Service 7 pmat Closter Fire Department Knickerbocker Hook and Ladder Company, 100 Ruckman Road Closter, NJ. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make a donation on John's behalf to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research Grand Central Station P.O. Box 4777 New York, NY 10163.B
