John 'Jack' Klingert, 92, passed away on July 3rd, 2023. He was born June 3rd, 1931 in Queens, NY and was raised in the Yorkville section of Manhattan. It was in Yorkville where he and his beloved wife, Joan, met as teenagers. They were married for 71 years after dating for five years.
Jack graduated from Commerce High School and signed a professional contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jack's baseball career was interrupted when he was called to serve in the US Army. A baseball injury to his throwing arm ended his professional career. Jack remained a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees.
In March of 1957 he joined the New York City Police Department. Jack attended Fordham University receiving a Bachelors Degree. Ultimately Jack achieved the rank of NYPD Captain. He retired after 38 years. Jack was admired and respected as an honest and fair leader.
Upon his retirement, Jack became an avid fisherman on the Piermont Pier where he became know as 'Captain Jack.'
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mary; his daughter Doreen Weatherby; and his grandson John.
In addition to his loving wife, Joan, he is survived by his children, Elaine, Barbara, Jack and Teri, Kevin and his sister Anna. Jack treasured his grandchildren, Michael, Tim, Brett, Danielle, Colleen, John, Craig, Ryan and Kortney. He was recently thrilled by his first great grandchild, Lexi.
Jack Klingert was a legend for all who knew him.
