John J.
Mahoney
July 1, 1937 – November 27, 2022
John J. Mahoney, born in Brooklyn on July 1, 1937 to John and Rita Keenan Mahoney. He lived in Brooklyn until his marriage to Kathleen Gallagan of Irvington on September 26, 1965. They lived for a short time in Jackson Heights before moving to Tappan in 1971.
John served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin crisis from 1960 to 1961. He was employed at Chase Manhattan Bank for 22 years as a supervisor in the securities area. He worked as a window clerk for the Pearl River Post Office from 1980 until his retirement in 1999.
John was a member of St. Dominic's Council Knights of Columbus and the Orangeburg / Blauvelt Senior Citizens Club. He served as an usher at St. Catharine's Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen of Tappan and his sister Maureen Cush of Staten Island. He was predeceased by his brother, Dennis P. Mahoney of Long Pond, PA and his sister, Jean Marie Bell of Parsippany, NJ.
Wake will be held at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan on Wed., Nov. 30th, 1-5pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Thu., Dec. 1st, 11am at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt with entombment to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
