Joseph Derrico, 84, a long-time resident of Closter/Harrington Park, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in the Bronx, New York, in January of 1941 to his parents, John and Helen. Joseph exemplified a strong sense of duty and a sharp intellect from a young age. These qualities would define his long life and career.
A proud graduate of Georgetown University and Fordham Law School, Joseph answered the call to serve his country, achieving the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His commitment to justice led him to also serve as an Air Force Judge Advocate, a role in which he served with integrity and honor.
Following his military service, Joseph built a successful career in commercial real estate. Later in life, he found a wonderful community of friends and colleagues during his time at The Home Depot. Above all his accomplishments, however, Joseph's greatest devotion was to his family. He was a permanent fixture on the sidelines of his sons' sporting events, a proud and ever-present supporter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Ann, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Joseph's legacy of love and dedication is carried on by his children, Joseph (Patricia), John (Caroline), and Denine (Dave). He was a cherished grandfather to six grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride into his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 1pm at our Lady of Victories Church in Harrington Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Paramus Veterans home, as he received compassionate care and friendship from all who served at the facility during his last years (NJ Veterans Home at Paramus. 1 Veterans Drive, Paramus NJ, 07652).
