Joseph Michael Grasso, "Michael," of Tappan, New York, 68; beloved husband of Margaret Anne Thomsen-Grasso, "Meg" who were married for almost 30 years, and loving father of Thomas Thomsen-Grasso, died peacefully at Kindred Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey on March 30, 2025, after an extended illness.
He was born October 18, 1956, in Nyack Hospital, Nyack NY, and went to Tappan Zee High School. A native of Rockland County, New York. Michael was the son of Cosmo Grasso, and Helen Wilson Grasso from Tappan. With his siblings Donna, Wanda, Shirley, John and Jeffrey he was raised in Tappan. Following Tappan Zee High School, he went on to work with his father, Cosmo at the Paper Mill in Piermont, there he managed and maintained the boiler and power facilities for the mill. Michael also worked in the maintenance department for Minigrip Corp. Additionally, heserved as a Caretaker for the Dutch Reformed Church in Tappan and was responsible for maintaining the grounds and the cemetery at the Manse. Michael then worked at the JCC in Tenafly, New Jersey as one of the lead maintenance workers taking care of the facility and its activities for over 10 years. Finally, he worked for the Town of Orangetown, in the Parks and Recreations Department and was responsible for maintaining the Veterans Park in Tappan until his retirement.
Michael was a quiet man and a very hard-working person always fixing machines, cars, bikes and facilities, which he made his life's work. Michael was a member and active in the Knights of Columbus, Blauvelt at various times throughout his life.
Michael Grasso is survived by his wife Margaret, his son Thomas, and his daughter from his first marriage, Dawn Grasso. Margaret and Thomas Thomsen-Grasso lived with him in Tappan until his passing.
He will be missed and loved by his entire family and everyone who knew him.
Friends and family may call Friday, 9:30-12pm, at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12:30 PM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.
