Lillian Stuercke, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in New City, NY, on February 21, 2022, after a long illness. Lillian, a lifelong resident of Tappan, was 73 years old.
She was born on February 6, 1949 at Nyack Hospital to Clarence J. "Dutch" Kuhn and Mary Madeline (Uebelacker) Kuhn.
Upon graduating from Tappan Zee High School in 1967, Lillian began working for, and remained an invaluable employee of the South Orangetown Central School District for 37 years.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John H. Stuercke; her son James M. Stuercke and wife, Brenda (Romanowski) Stuercke; her son Robert J. Stuercke and wife, Emily (Boswell) Stuercke; her seven grandchildren: Bryan, Anneliese, Hannah, Lorelei, Jacob, Ian, and Rachel; her sister, Joan (Kuhn) Lenhart; sister-in-law Marie (Stuercke) Fritzsche and her husband, Robert T. Fritzsche; her nieces Linda, Lynne, Karen, Donna, and Debbie; and nephews Charles, Christian, and John, along with several great-nephews and nieces. Lillian was predeceased by her sister, Barbara A. (Kuhn) Hofsommer, brother-in-law, Christian G. Hofsommer Jr., brother-in-law, Charles A. Lenhart, nephew, Edward C. Lenhart; sister-in-law Margaret (Stuercke) Bullinger, and niece, Patricia A. Bullinger.
Lillian will be remembered fondly for organizing wonderful family gatherings, where she sang, danced, and laughed with her sisters, Joan and Barbara. She happily spent time working on puzzles, researching her family's history, and watching backyard birds. Lillian enjoyed seeing sights on trips with family and friends, and taking long walks through the hamlet she loved and called home.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 26th at 11am at the Tappan Reformed Church, with burial to follow at the Tappan Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday, February 25th from 3-7pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association of America (www.alzfdn.org).
