Margaret Alexander Ronsberg was born June 22, 1926 in Old Tappan, NJ where she lived until her passing April 9, 2024 at the age of 97.  Margaret met the love of her life at age 16 during World War II when she began writing letters to Clayton "Rons" Ronsberg, a US Navy sailor.  Within two years, they were engaged, married on July 7, 1946 after the war ended, and remained married for 60 years until his passing August 18, 2006.  Margaret published a chronicle of their love in a book named "Pen-Pal Romance"; The Story of Love over Letters during World War II.

Margaret's ancestors landed in New York from Holland in the early 1600's. They, along with ten other men, bought a large tract of land from the Tappan Indians, including Old Tappan.  Her family built the first house on the land in 1705.  The original deed is a sheepskin from Queen Ann of England.

During the war, Margaret lived near Camp Shanks, the New York Port of Embarkation, and volunteered at the United Service Organizations (USO).  She graduated school at the age of seventeen and began working as a biologist at Lederle Laboratories, where she remained for 46 years until her retirement.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11th 4pm - 7pm. A wake service will start at 5pm with Chaplain Debbie will at Moritz Funeral Home in Closter, NJ.  Funeral services will begin Friday, April 12th at 11am at Moritz Funeral Home in Closter, NJ followed by the burial at the Old Tappan Cemetery on Washington Avenue (behind the Trinity Reformed Church).
