IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie F.
Guiney
August 4, 2022
Marie Nicholson Guiney died peacefully at her home on August 4, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born in the Bronx, NY, on August 4, 1943, to Helen (née O'Connor) and John Nicholson. The third of five children, Marie grew up in the Bronx, where she proudly developed a lifelong passion for the Yankees, especially Mickey Mantle. As a child, she spent summers with her family in Rockaway, which created an enduring love of the ocean. After graduating from the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, Marie went to Thorpe Secretarial School and then worked at the Manhattan Shirt Company. In 1963, Marie met Dave Guiney, an Irish immigrant, at a church bazaar, and the rest is history. They were married on May 14,1966, at St. Francis Xavier Church in the Bronx and, with God's blessings, Marie and Dave went on to have six children and 11 grandchildren. In 1973, they moved to Palisades, NY, where they raised their family.
Throughout her life, Marie was actively involved in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart parish as a Eucharistic Minister, Rosarian, CCD teacher, CYO coach and Board Member, and Parish Council member, as well as being a class mom for many years at OLSH parochial school. She was also active in her community of Palisades as a Girl Scout leader, softball coach, and Election Board volunteer. In her spare time, Marie enjoyed reading, shopping, watching her beloved Yankees, and spending time with her loved ones.
Marie is survived by her loving children: Jeannie (Tom) Irizarry, Terry (Joe) Parker, Patty (John) Joyce, Steve (Ann McCormick) Guiney, Matt (Diana Stone) Guiney, and Kevin (Mary McSheffrey) Guiney, and her greatest legacy, her 11 grandchildren: Tommy, Ally, and Matthew Irizarry; Shannon and Brenna Parker; Erin and Meghan Joyce; Molly and Shane Guiney; and Jack and Amelia Guiney. She is also survived by her sisters: Margaret Fenn and Helene (Jim) Lennon; her brother-in-law, Gene (Christina) Guiney, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Dave, and her brother, Johnny, and sister, Jean Baptiste Nicholson, OSU. Marie was truly loved by those who were blessed to know her.
