Marilyn B. Valverde, daughter of the late Richard Bartlett and the late Bernice Bartlett, died peacefully at home on September 11, 2023. She is survived by her three sons, David (Janice), Daniel (Tamar), and Edward (Kathleen). She is also survived by three grandsons, Steven, Alexander, Damian and five step-grandchildren, Corey, Denise, Jillian, Desmond and Arianna (Cole). Her daughter, Diane (Edward), who is deceased as of 1998 and a grandson, Tyler, who is deceased as of 1998.

Born in Greenfield, MA on October 19, 1932. She had five siblings, Donna, Richard (deceased), Joan (deceased), Patricia, and Duane. She attended and graduated from Scotia High School and went on to earn a nursing certificate in 1953, at what is now SUNY Plattsburgh.

Marilyn met Fernando Valverde, who was completing an internship to become a physician, while working as a nurse at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. The two shared a playful side and played small romantic practical jokes on each other; quickly fell in love and married on December 12, 1959. They were married for 62 years before Fernando passed away in February of 2022.

Marilyn was considered by those who knew her as sweet, kind, nonjudgmental, and accepting. She was a good listener, with rarely a negative thing to say of anyone. She was a caring mother and homemaker, who loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed painting, drawing, playing the piano, reading, knitting and gardening.

Marilyn will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her kind, accepting, and gentle manner. She will be deeply missed.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Rockland Cemetery, 201 Kings Highway Sparkill, NY at 12pm on Saturday, October 21.
