Obituary

Mary Anne Muriello, long-time resident of Newton, MA, recently passed away peacefully at the age of 63. The daughter of Peter and Marie Muriello, Mary Anne was raised in Orangeburg, NY together with her brothers, Mark, and Peter. Mary Anne excelled in many areas of her life, bringing extraordinary passion to her academic, professional, artistic, and personal interests. Despite the many adversities she faced throughout her life, Mary Anne showed amazing strength, courage, determination and resilience, impressing all that came to know her.
Following her graduation from Barnard College, she went on to achieve her M.D. in Neurology at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. She advanced her calling and her career first in Ohio at the Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital and later - in what would become her home - in Massachusetts at Tufts New England Medical Center, St. Elizabeth's, and the Lahey Clinic. As a physician, Mary Anne dedicated her time and energy to serving her patients compassionately and thoughtfully. She also enriched the lives and careers of so many of her colleagues and professional peers.
A loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Mary Anne is survived by her brothers Mark (Shelley Prettyman) and Peter (Jeanne Marie Mirabella), her nephews and niece Samuel, Joshua(Elizabeth) and Rosemarie, as well as her cousins and their families. Her graceful love, welcoming heart, and deep compassion allowed Mary Anne to forge a family of relatives and friends alike.
Mary Anne was deeply curious and extraordinarily creative. Her passions included gardening, traveling, music, and fine food, whether it be cooking or dining out. Mary Anne's happiest places were in her garden, in the kitchen, and in her Victorian home, where she enjoyed her projects to restore the house bit by bit. She liked nothing better than sharing all of these with her beloved family and friends.
