Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Maureen McDonagh, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, who left this world on October 21, 2026. Born on June 13, 1967, in Bronx, NY, Maureen was the cherished daughter of Philomena McDonagh and the late Noel McDonagh. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by the comforting presence of her family, after a brief illness.

Maureen's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and compassion. Her early years were spent at St. Nicholas of Tolentine, and she proudly graduated from the Academy of Mt. St. Ursula High School in 1985. She pursued her passion for caring for others by earning her degree from the SUNY School of Nursing, embarking on a career that allowed her to touch countless lives as a devoted nurse. Her patients knew her not only for her professional dedication but also for the genuine love and care she extended to each of them.

Family was the cornerstone of Maureen's life. She leaves behind her loving children: Conor (Laura Zapata), Corin (Alexander Guiou) and Cian and Cormac, and her niece Caitlin McDonagh (Luke Gifford), her granddaughter, Maeve Erin Guiou who was the light of her life, and she treasured every moment with her. Maureen is also survived by her mother, Philomena McDonagh, her step father Dennis McFadden, and many other cherished family members and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Noel McDonagh, and her brother, Noel McDonagh.

Maureen's spirit was defined by her beautiful blue eyes, infectious smile, and big dimples, which were ever-present even when she was playing one of her famous practical jokes. An avid Jets fan, she never missed a Sunday football game, and her home was often filled with the sounds of family game nights, spooky movie marathons, and the delicious aroma of perfect Sunday dinners. Her love for vacations at Lake George and the Jersey Shore is fondly remembered by all who shared in those joyful times.

A service to celebrate Maureen's life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan, NY. Mass to be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Catharine’s Church in Blauvelt NY. Her family invites all who knew her to attend, to share memories and honor the remarkable woman she was.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Maureen's memory to the American Cancer Society, based in Atlanta, GA, an organization dear to her heart.

Maureen will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
