IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nancy Lynne
Marsanico
June 10, 1950 – June 22, 2023
Nancy Lynne Marsanico, a longtime resident of Rockland County, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and full of love on Thursday, June 22, 2023.
Born to Eleanor and Francis Furtsch on June 10, 1950, in Manhattan, Nancy grew up in Great Neck, NY, where–as a teen–she met her beloved and devoted husband of 51 years, Robert (Bob) Marsanico. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Jaime Marsanico (JR Harrington) and Jaclyn Rodriguez (Jason) and her two grandchildren Owen and Olivia Rodriguez.
Nancy lived her life with limitless warmth and generosity. She enjoyed sharing new experiences and creating unforgettable memories with family and friends.
A graduate of Queens College, where she was a proud member of Delta Zeta Sorority, Nancy received a master's in education from Hunter College. She made many life-long friends and impacted thousands of students throughout her career as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher in Nyack Public Schools, where she taught for over 30 years.
Nancy was her daughters' number one fan, always encouraging them and cheering them on at everything from dance recitals, school plays, swim meets and basketball games to basement improv comedy shows and a cappella performances. Once pictured in Glamour magazine as a "highly glamorous mom," she was also a committed Girl Scout leader and a talented seamstress–making not only outfits for herself and her daughters (and their dolls), but also remarkable Halloween costumes. She gave invaluable advice and the best hugs.
As those close to her know well, a few of Nancy's favorite things were listening to Jimmy Buffett's music, cheering on the Duke Blue Devils, singing along to Broadway showtunes, watching classic movies and procedural crime dramas, riding roller coasters, and all-things Disney. She loved to explore new places, leading her family on memorable vacations to Key West, Bermuda, Hawaii, Paris, camping and ski trips, and sailing in the British Virgin Islands, as well as traveling with her husband to Alaska, Panama, Italy, England, Scotland, Jamaica and elsewhere throughout the Caribbean.
Nancy appreciated a well-told story and almost always had a book within reach, with favorites ranging from Pride and Prejudice to just about anything by Stephen King, and she passed her passion for reading on to her daughters and grandchildren. She loved being outdoors and delighted in tending to her backyard hibiscus plants each summer. Scrapbooking was one of Nancy's creative outlets and flowed seamlessly into designing handmade cards celebrating her loved ones on every occasion.
She also valued spending time with friends, whether playing mahjong at the Nyack Field Club, enjoying meals together during winters in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, or entertaining at the countless pool parties she and Bob hosted at home–where, of course, she'd serve her famous Pound Cake, a recipe she was always happy to share.
Most of all, Nancy found joy in spending time with her family and especially cherished the memories made with her grandchildren–baking, making ice cream sundaes, telling stories, singing songs, watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and crafting together. But perhaps nothing topped sharing her love of Disney, treating them to a Disney Cruise last summer.
Nancy was committed to building a life of happiness, adventure and opportunity for her family, and her presence made life better for everyone she loved. She will be missed by all.
Her life will be celebrated on Friday, June 30 (2-4pm and 7-9pm) at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan, NY. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 1 (11am) at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chapel, 120 Kings Highway, Tappan, NY.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation in Nancy's memory, please consider a contribution to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center ( https://www.mskcc.org /).
