Obituary

Nicholas Suriani, a longtime resident of Palisades, NY, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Nick was born in Brooklyn to Joseph and Rose Benedetto Suriani on February 26, 1938. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1958. Nick, a Brooklyn boy, moved out to 'the country' in 1971 to raise his family. He was an avid golfer, artist and master builder. He was so adventurous that he sky dived out of a plane at the age of 70. Nick was an active member of the American Legion Post 1199 in Orangeburg and the Tappan Senior Club. He loved his friends, food, wine, but most of all spending time with his big, crazy Italian family. Nick was one of a kind and did it his way.

Nick is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Rita (nèe Martinelli); his loving children, Elaine (Anthony), Arlene and Nicholas Jr. (Diana); his loving grandchildren, Angela, Gina (Matt), Michael (Angela), Erica, Samantha, Anthony, Nicholas and Olivia; and his dear great-grandchildren, Sophia, Rose and soon to be anticipated arrival of baby girl Popp. He is also survived by his sister, Angela (Caesar) and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, July 14th, 11am, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 120 Kings Highway, Tappan, NY. Burial with military honors to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, July 13th, 3-7pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan, NY In. lieu of flowers donations in Nick's memory may be made to either the United Hospice of Rockland ( www.unitedhospiceinc.org ) or the American Cancer Society ( www.cancer.org ).
