IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter
Sorensen
February 19, 1931 – March 22, 2024
93. Born February 19, 1931. Lifetime resident of Closter. Also, resident of Marco Island, FL and most recently moved to Arkansas. Passed away on March 22, 2024. Loving Husband to Louise, for the past 67 years. Cherished Dad to Peter (deceased 2016), Patty Christ, Mary and husband Eddie Doidge (deceased 2023) and Kathy and husband Don Haupt. Loving Pop Pop to Rebecca, Lisa, Maggie, and John. Great Grandfather to seven, and just welcomed great great grandson. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Beloved brother to Harriet Steiner; predeceased by his brothers Arthur and Charles Sorensen and by his sisters Alice Durie and Dorothy (Dot) Moeser.
Peter was a very proud Navy Veteran. Served during the Korean War conflict on multiple submarines. Dedicated 61 years on the Closter Fire Department and served as Chief from 1979-1980. Served with the Closter Ambulance & Rescue Corp for 59 years. For many years he was a Friday night duty crew, crew chief.
Peter had an extremely long and successful career directing and supervising the construction and maintenance of large supermarket chains before retiring. When not working, he loved to spend his time with family and friends, especially if it meant "going out to eat". Over the years he enjoyed hunting, boating, gardening and above all "fixing" things. He was a carpenter by trade, just like his dad. To quote Peter's nephew Vern, he was the "on-call fix everything guy". If you needed something to be constructed, renovated, fixed or even demolished, you called Peter.
