IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond Lewis
Keywork
August 20, 1932 – October 4, 2024
Raymond Lewis Keywork, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at his home in Tappan, on Friday October 4. Ray was 92 years of age.
Ray was born on August 20, 1932, in Paterson NJ, to George and Sarah Keywork. He spent his early years in Brooklyn NY, where his life-long love of baseball, and the Brooklyn Dodgers, began. Although a battle with Polio prevented Ray from pursuing his dream of playing for the Dodgers, it could never diminish his love for the team. Even the fateful move of his beloved team to Los Angeles could not dim his love for them.
After serving in the Army in the early 1950's, Ray moved back to Brooklyn. In 1955 Ray's sister, Mary, introduced him to her friend Rita, and the two fell madly in love. On January 28, 1956, Ray and Rita Mary Stapleton were married and together they raised their family.
Ray was a kind and generous individual whose love for his wife and family was paramount in his life. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in the appearance of his lawn and garden. The loss of his mother and sisters to breast cancer led to him generously donate to The American Cancer Society. ACS, along with the American Liver Foundation, The Wounded Warrior Project and Feed the Children were some of his favorite charities.
Ray was predeceased by his wife Rita and is survived by his five children: Robert, Susan, Christine, Ray and wife Maureen, Tom and wife Ronnie; Eleven grandchildren: Christopher and wife Deanna, Robert and wife Jessalyn, Ryann and husband Thomas, Samantha and husband Dustin, Nicholas, Sara, Matthew, Sophia, Daniel and fiancé Sophia, Cole, and Grace; seven great grandchildren: Jamin, Aurorah, Alex, Luke, Brayden, Cade, and Leia.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 3 - 8 pm at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 am on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa NJ. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend.
