Obituary

Richard G. Pforte, a lifelong resident of Tappan, New York, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024. Born on December 10, 1935, in Nyack, New York to Josephine and John Pforte, Rich's life was marked by a deep commitment to family, service, and community.

Rich graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 1950 when it was located in Piermont, New York. Following his graduation, he bravely served his country in the United States Marines, rising to the rank of Sergeant. After his honorable discharge, Rich became a dedicated member of the Plumbers & Steamfitter Local Union 373, where he proudly served for an incredible 64 years. During those years he served as a trustee and various other board positions within the Union.

In 1958, Rich married the love of his life, Rose Mezzasalama, and together they embarked on a remarkable journey of love, family, and shared adventures. Sadly, Rose passed away in 1998, leaving a void that Rich carried with grace and strength.

Rich is survived by his brother Bob from Marianna, Florida, and his children: Mike (Debbie) from Pompano Beach, Florida; Lori (Mickey) from Damascus, Pennsylvania; Rick (Norren) from Tappan, New York; Mark and Glenn, both from Tappan, New York. His legacy lives on through his 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense joy and pride for Rich.  Not to be forgotten is his beloved dog, Tessa, who was a faithful companion.

Throughout his life, Rich was an active and dedicated member of his community. He served as a Life Member and Ex-Chief of the Tappan Fire Department, embodying the spirit of selflessness and courage. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Carl A. Schelin American Legion Post 1271.

Rich will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his selfless service to his community and country. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
