IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth H.
Dizzine
November 18, 1923 – December 25, 2023
Ruth H. Dizzine (nee Shields), of Tappan, NY, passed away peacefully on Christmas night, Dec. 25th, 2023, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born in Nyack, NY on November 18, 1923 to Robert and Lillian Shields. Ruth recently enjoyed her 100th birthday celebration with her large and loving family. Ruth is predeceased by her devoted husband Patrick "Chuck" Dizzine and her three siblings, Robert Shields, Eleanor Stroud, and George Shields. She was the cherished mother to Patrick C. Dizzine, Jr. (Bernadette), Robert Dizzine (Susan), Judith Smith-Linderman (George), and Nancy Diaz (Richard). Also survived by her eight loving grandchildren Jason, Melissa, Jennifer, Nicole, Jessica, Denise, Kyle and Daniel; her twelve great-grandchildren; sister Etta Behrens; and her many nieces and nephews. Ruth was a graduate of Tappan Zee High School, class of 1942. During World War II, Ruth began working at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY where she was a packer of Sulfa Powder for wounded soldiers and then became a bookkeeper until the birth of her first child. As a homemaker while raising her children, Ruth also did the bookkeeping for her husband Patrick's business, Marshall's Garage. Ruth was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community; a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church; a life member of John M. Perry Post Ladies Auxiliary; volunteer at other local organizations; enjoyed many trips with the Piermont Senior Citizens Club; but her best moments were when her and "Chuck" were babysitters for every one of their precious grandchildren and just simply being with her family. A Funeral Mass will be held, Sat., Dec. 30th, 10am, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Visiting will be Fri., Dec. 29th, 3–7pm at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Tappan, NY ( stjohnnewman.org ) or the PurpleHeartFoundation.org ; or UnitedHospiceInc.org .
