Obituary

Tappan, NY - Tappan Location

Shirley Ann (Bagley) Simmons, 79, passed away peacefully September 21, 2021 surrounded by family at the home of her son in New Paltz NY. Shirley was born on May 26, 1942 in England to James and Eleanor (I'Anson) Payne-Troughton. She emigrated to the US in 1963 with her husband and first child. She raised all three of her children, Stephen,Carolyn and Jeffrey, as a single mother in the Bronx. In 1986, she married her second husband Thomas and moved to Tappan where she enjoyed decorating for the seasons and hosting many cherished family holidays. Shirley was homemaker and parishioner of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. She was devoted to all of her family, caring for all of them through out her lifetime. Shirley enjoyed leisure time anywhere by sunshine and water, loved to crack a joke and make others laugh. She had a silly sense of humor and a sentimental soul. Shirley's secret love was feeding family dogs when their owners weren't looking

She is survived by her children, Stephen Bagley (Jennifer), Jeffrey (Mary) Bagley, and Carolyn Bagley; her grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephen, Sydney and Tahlia, Claire, Peter, and Anna; her brother Terrence Payne-Troughton and sister Eleanor McCormack (Mickey). Shirley was predeceased by her husband Thomas, who died on 2005.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday 10:30am, at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. Visiting hour will be Thursday, 5-8pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers donations to Hudson Valley Hospice (www.hvhospice.org).
