IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Urania 'Nitsa'
Boudounis
March 12, 2025
Urania "Nitsa" Boudounis, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on March 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Born to Greek parents, the late Athanasios and Athanasia Ergel, Nitsa was raised in the vibrant city of Constantinople (Istanbul). Her deep pride in her Greek heritage and Orthodox faith profoundly influenced her values and identity throughout her life.
Nitsa grew up in a culturally rich environment, surrounded by lively markets and the aromas of traditional cuisine. She celebrated the traditions and stories passed down through generations, embracing her ancestry with passion. Despite the political challenges that often affected her community, Nitsa navigated her world with resilience and grace. Her strength of character was evident in her unwavering courage and determination.
In 1968, Nitsa ventured to Los Angeles, California, seeking new opportunities. There, she met her beloved husband, Jimmy Boudounis. Together, they built a beautiful family in Downey, filled with love, laughter, and faith. As a devoted mother, Nitsa ensured that her daughters were actively involved in Greek school, Greek folk dancing, and their Orthodox faith. She instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, education, and cultural pride.
In addition to her role as a mother, Nitsa nurtured deep friendships within her community, embodying love and inclusion. Nitsa became a dedicated member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where she served as Parish Council President, contributing her time and energy to support her community. She found joy in connecting with others and celebrating life's moments, both big and small.
Nitsa is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy Boudounis; her daughters, Angela Boudounis-Hatzis and Aliki Hatzis; her brother, Emilios Hatsiyanakis; and her cherished grandchildren, John, Paul, Zoe and Dimitri Hatzis. She will be remembered for her remarkable spirit and the countless lives she touched with her warmth and generosity.
Wake and funeral services will be held on March 19, 2025 at 9:30 am and 10:30 am, respectively, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1 Marycrest Road, West Nyack, NY 10994. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church would be greatly appreciated.
